How do i reformat my Dell desktop computer with no recovery disks?

I have a dell bought in about 2002 and it has a virus i cant get rid of, i lost the disks for recovery, is there any other way i can go about reformatting my computer? How do i reformat my Dell desktop computer with no recovery disks? You don't want this answer, but it is the truth:

This system needs recovery disks to have the operating system reinstalled.

The Dell systems started to be shipped with image restore (recovery without needing media, as long as the factory installed software in the hard drive remains intact) in, if I recall fine, 2004.

However, If you purchased in the united states, if you purchased the computer with windows XP, I have good news for you: We may still be able to send you a CD to reinstall windows XP AND to assist you to download the required drivers from the Dell website if you contact tech support. If your computer was purchased with Windows 2000, there it isn't much that Dell can do for you, but otherwise we might be able to help.

How to contact Dell? Phone: 1-800-456-3355, or chat, www.dell.com/chatsupport. You will need your express service code and/or service tag.

Best regards,

Hello --

This may not be the answer you want ... and it isn't for everyone!

I had a buddy who got a nasty on his machine and I couldn't fix it, so we decided to do a complete system re-install. If you don't want to get a MS Windows system for the big bucks, you might look at installing a Linux OS.

We put Ubuntu (latest version) on my friend's computer and he loves it. He wouldn't go back to MS Windows now if he could.

Linux is virus resistant and it doesn't need a firewall ... so the computer seems to run faster (in fact it is just running fewer processes).

Linux is free and it installs very easily (just put the boot disk in and reboot the computer).

Linux isn't for everyone -- but it is very good!

Just thinking outloud,

BillHow do i reformat my Dell desktop computer with no recovery disks? You mean that green or orange or purple disc that came with your Dell ? (Green for the OS i believe)

Hmm...well if its under warranty, they should be free. Pfft, even if it isnt, Dell should just ship you those......because they only work with Dells (and youve already bought from them)

And im sure you know somebody that has a Dell....those green discs will work with any dell. It's something in the bios that knows your using the dell discsHow do i reformat my Dell desktop computer with no recovery disks?
