How do you enable Chinese characters on a Dell Latitude D600?

I have a Dell Latitude D600, and am taking Chinese. I need to be able to see the characters on my screen, but boxes with little numbers inside of them take their place. How do I enable the characters on my computer with no additional software or discs?
