I hope this helps. How do I do a system restore on a Dell desktop to make the computer like brand new?Well, normally, when you buy your dell desktop they give you a windows CD and a serial (the serial might be in the CD box, on a booklet that came with the CD or somewhere on the outside of the PC).

You'll have to find these first of all.

Then, back up the files you want to save on an external hard drive, CDs or whatever.

Put the Windows installer CD in and reboot your computer. It should boot from the CD instead of booting windows.

In the menu, there should be a "format" option. If not, you should be able to choose how to format and partition drives at some point in the install wizard.
