I have a Dell Dimension 8250 and it only has 512 mb of ram which makes it slow and causes freeze-ups. Would it be something I could do myself? How difficult is it to add ram to a Dell computer?RAM is definitely the easiest thing to change in a computer, even if you're a novice. The trick is getting the right replacement, which someone at a store can help you with.
RAM usually comes in pairs. So you probably have 2 256 MB chips. In advertising, this is usually written something like:
512 MB (2X256 SODIMMS).
See if you can research what kind of RAM this model of Dell supports. There's usually a performance rating number which translates to its clock speed, like PC8400 or 10333. You'll need to know that when you buy the RAM.
Let's say you want to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM, you'd buy 2 2GB chips.
They sit in slots with handles on the sides that hold them in place. Simply move the handles and the chip pops out. Put the new chips in their place (they can only go 1 direction), and make sure they're in tight. When you put chips in correctly, the handles usually snap into place automatically. If they don't, it's possible you didn't 'seat' it correctly in its slot. If it's in as good as it gets, you can just push the handle into the divot on the chip. How difficult is it to add ram to a Dell computer?its not very difficult just take the ram out of your computer it looks like a long green or blue but usually green plate with a bunch of rectangles and squares on it they could be any color but usually black and when you take them out they will have a notch at the bottom this tells you the voltage and just take it in to a computer store ask for something with high RAM and when you get back just plug it in and install it
