I believe you have to take out the tiny motherboard memory battery? Then it will reset(I'm not talking about the laptop main battery).
I want to know where this battery is located and what i need to take off.
I've taken desktops apart but not a laptop.
I don't have a warranty with DELL anymore either.How to reset the BIOS on a Dell studio 17 laptop?It looks like the coin-cell battery is located under the normal laptop battery. Follow the directions at the link below.
BTW, If your are using this method to reset the default BIOS password, this will not work on Dell Laptops. Years ago, Dell changed how the BIOS password was reset so that all that anyone that steals a password protected laptop has is a basically a overpriced brick/doorstop. The only way to get the BIOS password is to call Dell and give them your system track code. Dell will verify that you are the legitimate owner and then give you the password.
