What do you have to do to become a engineer for the military?

I am interested in becoming a engineer for the U.S Military. My preference is the Air Force. But others are cool. What kind of schooling is required? What kind of classes should I take? And, what school should I got to?What do you have to do to become a engineer for the military? You can do this two ways (depending on what type of engineer)

1. Go to school first and get a degree in engineering, then join. I believe you get a pay raise and go in as an officer.
2. Go join now, get above a 95 on the entrance exam, and they let you choose engineering. I have only heard of "combat engineer", so I am not sure what other engineering you may be referring to.

Better yet, call a recruiter. They would know.
