Like, who pays for your eats? Do they feed your whole family while you in the military? Are there big cafeterias filled with free food for the whole base to go and eat at? What if you want a snack on the road - does your sargent pay for it? What if it is not healthy and your sargent thinks it might slow you down? Do they only pay for fruit and granola bars? What is the policy on food in the military? For the most part, food is going to be on you in the military and no it is not free. This is not a soup kitchen.
Even those who "eat free" have it come out of their pay as they will not get the BAS that they normally would. Other than places like basic/boot, you are not really restricted on what you eat, so long as you can pass the PT tests and make height/weight.
Every base in the military has a dining hall of some sort. Usually trainees have a meal card or use their social to "pay" for the food, while everyone else just pays like normal. It is really cheap compared to other places. I think dinner at most dining facilities is only like $4.25 or thereabouts. What is the policy on food in the military?
Food is not free. The only time it's free is if you're on a meal card. If you have dependents you will be paid extra money for them to buy groceries. There are no places on base that just hand out free food to family members. What is the policy on food in the military?YOU are provided with access to the chow hall, where you can eat what they serve for free. Your family gets nothing. You are provided with more money for having dependents and are expected to use that money to feed them. If you are hungry on the road, assuming you are working, you are allotted per diem pay to cover your meals. You can eat whatever you want, and if you become a lethargic fat body then you will be dealt with accordingly.
When I was in, if the mess hall had steak, I would pick whatever else was there. Stringy, tough, chewy and indigestible. I hope it's better by now. What is the policy on food in the military?like prison , 3 hots a day and someone has paid for it.What is the policy on food in the military?
The military does not pay for food for your family. The military does have dinning facilities on post and if your schedule meets their schedule you can eat there. If you are not receiving separate rations or rations not available (that is money for food that is in addition to your pay) you can eat at a dining facility. You go in and sign in and eat. If you are receiving extra money in your pay for food, you can eat there but it is not for free and it can be a little expensive. If you are an officer, you have to pay for your food as well.
The military only has to give you three meals a day. It does not have to provide you with snacks so your sgt would not buy you a snack on the road unless he wanted to be a nice guy. You have your choice of what is on the menu for the day, if you want something different you can go to the store and pay for it out of your pocket.
If you are not married:Al soldiers unwed and living in the barracks will eat at the DFAC (cafeteria hall). The food is great and it is like a hometown buffet.
They will deduct around 250$ out of your check to pay for it put that's all added in, so it's free in a way, but technically it came from your paycheck.
Your sgt can't tell you what to eat, and you are free to go buy food elsewhere with your own funds if you want.
If married:
You will recieveBAH and BAS, food and housing, this means you get to keep the amount that is normally tkaen out of enlisted soldiers checks ($250) and use it for whatever you want. However, you will have to pay when going to the dfac.
Some dfacs dont check for your meal card so you can probably eat there for free anyways. What is the policy on food in the military?
You are lucky if your SGT wants to pay for anything, once a SGT actually pitched in and bought us Gatorade's while we sweated our @$$ off in the hot sun. Anyway if you don;t want to eat in the chowhall, and eat at the fast-food joints on post like micky D's, its on you. There is always a gut truck that AAFES provides for the ranges, again, its on you. You can Always pay for and pack healthy snacks or pogies bate in your LCE/LBE pockets while on maneuvers.
If it is like it was when I was in, you were provided with three free hot meals per day if you were single and lived in the barracks. A married soldier could eat in the chow hall at noon , but had to pay for it since he received separate rations pay for him and his dependents , unless he was out in the field playing war games, then his chow was free. You were allowed from 30 to 60 minutes for the noon meal at the company commanders discretion. Breakfast and supper was available generally for one hour before and after work for barracks dwellers. But in combat , eating was like sleeping, you did it when the opportunity presented itself. They did not pay for any food off base unless you were authorized to be off base , then you kept your receipts and turned them in for reimbursement. When on leave from and back to base food was on you.
