How should I talk to my parents about me wanting to join a military academy and not a regular college?

Im currently in my Junior year of high school (which my parents pay for), and now ive firmly made my decision that i want to attend a military academy and join the service. I fear that they will not be approving of this, and will be dissappointed in me. I really respect my parents and want them to be proud of me, and this is what i want them to be proud of me for. Anyone who has advice on how to talk to them about it or who has gone through a similar situation will be greatly appreciated for the help. How should I talk to my parents about me wanting to join a military academy and not a regular college?I cannot see many parents not being proud of a son who earns an appointment to one of the service academies, so I honestly do not think that is going to be an issue. "Mom, Dad, I am considering competing for an appointment to the Naval Academy, West Point, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy or United States Merchant Marine Academy to serve our country as a commissioned officer. I would like to submit applications for West Point SLS, the Air Force Academy Summer Seminar and in February for the Naval Academy Summer Seminar and Coast Guard Academy AIM and hope to be admitted to at least one. There is a cost involved for transportation to the summer seminar and hope you will support me in seeking an appointment."

The selection process is nearly identical at The Naval Academy, West Point, and The Air Force Academy, so whatever is stated on one service academy website or in its catalog with regard to admissions generally holds for the others. Suggest considering the outstanding advice offered on the Usafa website to students prepping for a service academy, rotc scholarship or any highly selective university. If you carefully read the following answer and open the links it should help to explain the selection process and the path to an appointment:

Good Luck! How should I talk to my parents about me wanting to join a military academy and not a regular college? They are not going to be proud of you going into the best colleges in the country? They aren't going to be proud that you will lead and fight for their freedom and safety?

What kind of parents do you have? They are pathetic if they don't support their son in fighting for them, for their country, and for democracy around the world.

We may be in a pointless, money fueled war right now but one day you and I will have to fight together for our country and our families.
