When military servicemen get paid, does the money come from taxpayers?

Also, when a military serviceman receives a enlistment bonus or re-enlistment bonus, does that also come from taxpayers?



I have noticed that many idiots including myself are offered huge enlistment bonuses once we finish our term, sometimes up to 40,000 dollars. I have seen one of the most uneducated and foolish person in my group receive an enlistment bonus. Why is that?When military servicemen get paid, does the money come from taxpayers?Who else?When military servicemen get paid, does the money come from taxpayers?

They offer a re-enlistment bonus because it's cheaper to pay a bonus than it is to re-train another serviceman.



And yes, the salaries and bonuses come from the military budget, which is funded by taxpayers and businesses through federal income tax.

Its a retention bonus. and yes it is paid by the American taxpayer. It is a VERY good deal for Americans.

2. It is cheeper to pay "Bonuses" to keep people than it is to recruit and train a new person. It also saves, long term, in terms of VA Benefits and educational funding if they have less people come through the system.



Think of the armed forces as a huge corporation... Lets call it "wal*mart".



Wal*Mart spends $5,000 a person to train a new employee... The longer the employee stays employed there, the more they learn on their own... the more they learn, the greater the chance they will be happy with their job, stay employed, and advance through the "Ranks" to be promoted to management...



It is worth giving the employee a raise and maintaining the satisfied employee than to have to spend $5,000 every few months to replace an experienced employee.



It is just good business to retain employees rather than having to train new ones.
Yes, military pay and bonuses come from the DoD budget, and ultimately come from the taxpayer or borrowed. It will continue even after service, in the form of Veterans Affairs (VA) expenditures. Traditionally, personnel has been close to half of the defense budget.



As to enlistment bonuses, they are a major tool the military uses to get / keep personnel with needed skills. In a time of war, they may be used more to obtain recruits or keep veterans. As the economy has gotten worse, I understand the military has decreased its bonuses. My son, who recently enlisted, did not receive a bonus.
Yes! The revenue obtained from taxes support military expenditures.



And, doesn't it make one laugh when, following a recruiting commercial, the tagline is: Paid for by the US Army. Actually it is paid for by the US taxpayer.
