How would you feel about mandatory Military or Civil service in the United States?

When a child becomes an adult they have to choose between serving a few years in the civil service or two years in military service. (the time required to serve is negotiable, but civil service must be a good bit longer than military to give incentives for young people to choose military.)

I think a problem with society today is many Americans are too cocky and too proud. I think it would be a great idea to force everyone to serve in order to humble them. I think it鈥檚 also a good idea to make those benefiting from many freedoms and opportunities to give back to the country that is giving it to them. I think there are beneficial points that would appeal to both sides of the political isle, Dems - yeah socialism! / Reps - pro military!. I am sure that a system could be worked out for people to go to college at the same time they are serving (maybe part-time).How would you feel about mandatory Military or Civil service in the United States? If it were something like what Israel does it would be a good idea. I think military service or civil service benifts people a great deal and really gives people a great sense of humility. The one thing I know about many of our soliders in uniform is they do not bragg about being in the military eventhough they have every right to.How would you feel about mandatory Military or Civil service in the United States?
LINK FIXED , MUST WATCH DOCUMENTARY BELOW

The problem is the lack of confidence young people have toward the government because of the wars the U.S. has fought in the past and the current mess we find ourselves in.

Here is a well made documentary that gets to the heart of where the U.S. finds itself and how we got into this conflict.

Unfortunately, the administration (dems included) have been out of touch.

The few soldiers that I know say that moral is very low as many of the troops are feeling disillusioned.

They are coming to see the truth of what this war is really about and how they are being used as pawns for the current regime's quest for a New American Century.

Here is a link to a well made documentary with expert comments from current and former military personell.

this is just one part of the 10 part documentary.

This segment is really good in that exposes the administration's lack of military service and how out of touch they really are.

Also, Our current capitalistic ideal also needs to be challenged. Our we really a happier society? How would you feel about mandatory Military or Civil service in the United States?I think it is unfair... i refuse to fight in a war
Nope.

First the USA can't afford it, and second, we don't need it.How would you feel about mandatory Military or Civil service in the United States? This is not a program I would endorse. Our government is based on free speech and free will. FORCING one to give up years of their life for the sake of government is dictatorship. How would you feel about mandatory Military or Civil service in the United States?
it would tear the country apart, imagine in TX when Perry said all Adolecent girls had to have that Cancer shot everyone Went ApeS.hit here in TX. now to make Military or civil service Mandatory??? that would open up a whole new can!!
only if there were absolutely positively no way that the children of the rich/politicians or the upper class could get out of doing their stint

except for that I think it's might be a good idea, frankly I think this might actually result in the USA engaging in LESS pointless wars if the politicians kids are also going to be getting shot atHow would you feel about mandatory Military or Civil service in the United States?
Yes!!! I love!!! I know for a fact they do this in Germany, and there is nowhere more patriotic then a country full of veterans!!!
Why not? Keeps you fit, you learn to defend yourself, and you learn how to work as a team.
