For my birthday my dad is planning on splitting a dell with me. I keep on telling him that I do not want a dell. I want to explain to him why but i have no reason to tell him except the reputation. Instead of a dell this trust worthy guy offered me a man-built computer wich he claimed is good. He toled me the components he installed and i as well know it is a worthy computer. I don't have alot of time since the computer is amazing a cheap so i want to explain in to him the best way i can to split this computer with me. Thanks for any answers given, i will truly appreciate them. How should I convince my dad not to get a dell?u should print the facts about the two computers and compare them and show ur dad why u would rather hav ethe other computer. also dell computers are cheap price but arent as great as a more expensive comp.
it depends what you are gonna use your comp forHow should I convince my dad not to get a dell?
Dude, your gettin' a Dell. This other computer sounds kinda shady. Go with Dell, Consumer Reports rates their customer service very high. How should I convince my dad not to get a dell?Hey, id get the dell.
Ive got one and I have no complaints.....and afterall it IS a handbuilt computer by someone who may necessarily not know what they are doing unlike a professional company.
But if you really dont want one then just tell your dad that you dont want on, if he still doesnt listen shout it at him....it will soon hit home.
Because they're cheaper and better at http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.comHow should I convince my dad not to get a dell?Don't get a Dell, don't get some mashed up piece of junk someone have convinced you that "might" be good, Get yourself an HP or another good brand. Remember, you get what you pay for. Quality. How should I convince my dad not to get a dell?
Tell him the truth! Get a printout of the Dell components and a printout of the components of the other computer and sit down with your dad and show him the differences. I am sure he will be able to make the right decision once you do. You do have to realize also that he may be thinking about warranties and such. With a dell you have customer support and warranties that you wouldn't have with the other. Also, you can build your own dell. So you may be able to get the same components that are on the computer you want on a dell.
Good Luck!
Your dad wants a big brand name because he associates brand names with quality and service. Explain to him why the computer you want is both cheaper and custom-made to suit your needs, and explain that the warranties on brand-name computers are not worth the money because computers are not like other electronics... you almost never have to get them serviced by someone.
Also, go to a site where people slag their Dells and print out some of the horror stories. Tell him you are more tuned-in to the whole computer thing and have heard nothng but bad news about those overpriced Dells. Depending on his age, pull out the word Edsel... an overdesigned, overengineered dud of a car from last century that was supposed to be very popular but bombed with the public,.How should I convince my dad not to get a dell?
if yor guy was any good he would not be selling you a home built computer (amazingly) cheap,he would have a big factory and be mass producing them. will he give you a warrenty like dell or will he offer free service like Dell when it breaks.
Its your Dads money he worked for it,he is protecting his investment and he will buy what he wants to and you should just be happy your dad is willing to get this for you and quit being a spoiled little ungrateful brat.
i have a dell and i love it!!!! no problems whatsoever and i have had it almost a year now. but whatever floats your boat@
First off, and I say this as a person who prefers to build his own computers: Dell computers are not necessarily crap, there are horror stories as there are with any mass-produced product, but for many people they are very pleasant little computers.
Having said that convince you dad by finding a cost competitive computer that you like, one that comes with a warranty. Much though I'd like to advocate the freelance fellow you mentioned, if something goes wrong, its very difficult to know that he'll be around to fix it, or that you can take him on his word that he will fix it.
well one way is to tell your dad reasons y u dont want a dell and that all computers are basically the same. OR! u could wait and save up ur money for ur own personal computer...
If you want reasons not to get a Dell:
-Dell ranks 5th for quality and customer service (based on the last industry survey). Fifth place is not good. For reference, Apple ranks first.
-Dell's consumer support is Indian-based. The business support is North American based.
-Dell is under investigation by the N.Y. state Attorney General for fraud allegations related to its billing practices and home repair service (You can search for news articles related to this).
For the record, I own neither a Dell nor an Apple computer.
Oh, and if a person has to resort to personal attacks instead of facts to make his case, then he needs to get a job.
I worked on a computer once that someone had build for a client. The problem was the dude who built it was able to keep the price down by cutting corners. First the OS was pirated so I couldn't update it or get any support from Microsoft, Second the hardware wasn't warranted so I couldn't replace the pieces without charging extra to the client(not to mention the parts were not all named brand so they were junk to begin with). Third the software on it was almost all trail versions that at the time where out of time or used up.
It wouldn't have been bad if the dude took his time and put together a good system.
If you can trust him and have it under contract that he will fix/repair any pieces in a period of time. Or give you all the warranty information on the components like the video card, sound card, hard drive, etc. Then you should do it.
On a side note, Dell's tech support does suck very bad. I hate talking with an indian dudes who can't speak english.
dells are awesome and so are sonys whats wrong with dell
