This isn't really an answer to your question, but it's been here a while, so I thought I'd throw this in.

Some stars may have regularly scheduled shows off, but most don't. Most actors and actresses will work six days a week (usually with Monday being the "black day" where there are no performances, but this varies by theatre). Understudies get most of their stage time on two-show days, because they will generally take the matinee and the star will take the evening. This isn't a guarantee, though; most times, if the star actor wants to take all the shows, no one's going to stop them.

The other thing you have to consider, especially with a big, technically complicated show like Spiderman, is that people get hurt all the time, or get ill suddenly. You could have tickets to a show where Reeve was scheduled to be Spiderman, and then a half-hour before the show he could come down with a cold and call in his understudy. So it's really impossible to know which one you'll end up seeing.

All of that being said, I had similar feelings about the tour of Next to Normal--I wanted to see it with Alice Ripley or not at all. I have friends, however, who went to see it multiple times and saw both Alice and her understudy, and said they enjoyed the understudy much more. So don't be too quick to judge!
