I feel like I asked an easy question and I got no answers. Parents, please answer.?

Im considereing doing a traditional party for my son this year. Its right after a vacation so a big party like we normally do is out. Have you been to or thrown a party in recent years that used traditional party games as the entertainment? Ex. Sack races, musical chairs, ect instead of bounce houses and party places? And my husband will be being spiderman, he's very acrobatic, lol. Anyway, wondering your thoughts on a party like this, think kids these days will go for it? Most of the kids will be aged 2-6 except some older kids (family)I feel like I asked an easy question and I got no answers. Parents, please answer.?
I am the father of an eight year old boy and a three year old girl. One thing I have found is that children are very adaptable to situations involving fun and games, regardless of whether it is a bounce house or traditional games. Personally I prefer the traditional type of party and I think everyone benefits from it more. Every time I have been to party places or a bounce house is around I feel I spend almost the whole time just watching the children running around like crazy. As I watch I am usually cringing and praying no one gets hurt.

I always have the traditional parties for my children because they have a blast and I enjoy the interaction. Instead of just watching, I am participating in the fun. Some of my fondest memories as a child were parties and get-togethers in which both my friends and my family (especially my parents) played games together and just had fun.

Sorry I rambled but I am very passionate about keeping a strong family bond and having fun with my children and by the sound of you asking about this it sounds you are too
Sounds like a lot of fun for that age group.I feel like I asked an easy question and I got no answers. Parents, please answer.?
dont foget bean bag toss, and horshoes. or the marbles in the kiddie pool, that you have to pick up with your toes!

i think that you will be fine.
My family always has the games at our parties. Here are some more ideas for games, Pin the tail on the Donkey or maybe even a pinata.I feel like I asked an easy question and I got no answers. Parents, please answer.?
Sounds like alot of fun to me. I don't know about have 2 year

olds doing sack racing but the rest sounds good.
My children always had this sort of party - mind you, my youngest is now 23 so perhaps I'm a bit old-fashioned, but they always enjoyed themselves. Bit hectic for the adults! Finish with a game of Dead Lions so everyone can calm down and you can have a breather!
Too be honest, that's the only kind of parties I ever had for my children.

Just in case you need a other ideas:

1.Egg race (we used hard boiled eggs and would race from on end of the yard to the other with the eggs on the spoon)

2.Pin the tail on the donkey

3.Dress up/down race (get large clothes for the kids and place at either end of the yard, to start the race the kids at one end need to get dressed as quickly as possible and race to the other end and tag their team mate who then does the same thing-my kids always loved that one)

4.Scavenger hunt (we did a pirate theme last year and did a treasure hunt so this could be done either with a map or by leaving clues to the next location or just a list of items they need to find)

Good luck and have fun at your son's party.
I work with preschoolers at my church and believe me, they still love all the traditional games. My daughter's birthdays have been very simple. One of the things the kids have enjoyed the most is playing with the balloons. They had just as much fun playing tag as they would have in a bounce house. Frankly, I think we do too much for kid's birthdays now and you have a wonderful idea. It will be just fine. Happy birthday to your son.
I actually love these types of parties. Fun is fun.....either way. But I love the sack races, 3-legged races, water balloon tosses, kick ball....etc That should be fun even for the adults.
Our parties always include traditional games and are a huge hit. The kids love it, just like we did!

Far and away, treasure hunts with clues are the fav, but pin the tail on the donkey (or pin the ring on Sauron or whatever the theme is) is always a big hit, too. Treasure hunt clues can be pictures for little kids, or teams can be made so that kind older readers lead little kids.

Cool on spiderman! My dh does magic tricks!

Have great fun!
You be just fine! I think the bouncy houses are still the exception and not the norm unless your rich. Little kids are so asy to please! As long as it's fun, they dont care!
They would probably have a blast! And you would be giving them great memories because they haven't had that experience elsewhere. Those are great memories that I have.....you'd be giving them those memories to take with them through life too. And chances are some of them may pass them on down to their children. It would be a shame to loose those games completely through the generations. I say go for it! And good for you!!

Have fun with the party! :)
i don't see why they wouldn't go for it. it would probably be a real break on the parents of the children coming also because they won't have to shell out any money for games and things at Chucky Cheese.
Kids in that age group love those kind of games.(Most haven't been jaded by technology yet)

Another fun game for them is the clothes change race.

(They keep their clothes ON, of course)

Set a pile of adult clothes for each child in the race, they have to put them on then race to the other end and take them off.

Kids love this game

(have big shoes, long pants, baggy shirts, etc.)

The more they trip and fall the more they like it and the more fun it is.

Good luck with your party
I think it sounds like a lot of fun! They'll love it...even if they don't do the sack race like an adult would...who cares that's part of the fun! Just be sure to take lots of pics, I know the other mom's will appreciate it!

Regardless of age they'll all love Spiderman.

Sounds like you are having a very creative party. Believe me, you'll be the envy for a long time to come!
I think it is a good idea, plus you save money. When you rent those bouncy things not all the children get to partake. Doing the traditional races and water balloon toss is way more fun and all get to participate.
shorten ur question please
I think your idea would be great. Because there is such thing as having fun without spending a ton of money isn't there?? I think you could also try "pin the tail on the donkey'' too. Kids that age enjoy that kind of stuff.

Hope This Helps 鈾aris
I think the kids will be very exited - it can be a novelty in today's world of MacDonalds, video game arcades and kid's indoor play grounds (I'd say it's a fifty-fifty break down of recent kid's parties I've attended - I have a lot of nieces and nephews). Pinnatas are heaps of fun for this age. Serve mini hot dogs, party pies and sausage rolls. Hope the weather holds out so you can have it out doors.
People on yahoo answer doesnt choose easy or difficult question...they answer sensible ones so they wont waste their time.

Honestly do you expect a 2 or a 6 year old to sack race?MAYBE THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS
i think it will be a great party , my son loves spiderman , i think that children have fun know matter what you do , i wouldnt stress about it , it will turn out fine , kids just love to be outside and have fun with other kids and i have done it before too, good luck with the party !
put yourself in the shoes of the kids...they would love that!! i had a party for my daughter like that. her friends and cousins are still talking about it.
Yes not every kid can have a huge out of this world party that cost a ton of money to have. Your idea is fine. Remember it is the thougth that counts not the money spent on it. You are trying to have him a party and you care enough to do that and he will understand that it is for him. Kids are kids anything that is fun and entertaining they are in too.
Wow - criticizing people for not giving you adequate help - while asking for help. That was a surprising opening for me.

All of the ideas that you have listed are not just good ones, but are still successful today. You can add in pictures of current cartoon characters to the sacks in the sack race or on the seat of the chairs when playing musical chairs so one is Dora, one is Sponge Bob, etc.

Don't worry about "kids these days." If there is anything they need, it is old school traditions. Hope the party turns out well.
There is nothing wrong with a simple party. You can have it at a park if you want and then they can play and most have covered areas where you can have a few snacks and open presents. We have done this before and it was great.

If you want a bounce house is a good idea but sometimes costly. The kids really do not care... as long as they have someone to play with and cake and presents.

You can also do some crafts like make cars for the boys and crowns for the girls.

Good luck.
YES!My daughters friend and mom(her friend and my daughter are 6).THEY WILL LOVE IT.Thier was sack races, pinata,a toy find, they hid little toys and the kids had to go find them,we had pizza,oh man it was so fun for the kids and the parents,I think that would be a great idea.I know I had a blast!
I do those parties for my girls. I have games, the clown and everybody has fun. Instead of buying gift bags, I got paper lunch sacks, stickers, and crayons and let them decorate their own bags. It will help take up the time and the kids love it. I think what you are doing is a great idea, you should stick with it.
yes we throw just the traditional partys every year for our son cause its right around summer time so if you think that your son would like it then i say go for it .
These can be a lot of fun! I have 3 kids and we've moved away from the traditional party places to doing parties at home. They can be a lot more work and even more expensive, but they have turned out to be the best ones!

Your plans sound like a lot of fun and the age range of the kids would really enjoy it. Just remember to do a lot of balloons and stuff, they like that.

We did an Army party when my middle son turned 5, in our backyard. We even dressed ourselves up in my husbands fatigues. My son wore his amy costume. As the guests arrived they received army drawstring bags to carry their loot around in while they did the party. They also got a plastic army helmet and camo bandana to wear. We painted camo on their faces and took pictures with the birthday boy. We played games like tug of war over a kiddie splash pool (favorite of all the kids), had an obstacle course (army style) with swimming pool rings to run thru and a net to crawl under. We used toy water guns to shoot plastic army men off the playscape. We also had a water balloon fight with water balloons stashed in boxes we painted army green and stenciled "camo". And we played pin the hat on the army guy - aka pin the tail on the donkey. I made that with my computer. As the guests arrived, I had made a paper mache "bomb" like you do with the volcanoes that they each got to set off using vinegar and baking soda.

The cake was super easy. I frosted the sides "camo" - just blopping camo colored icing all over The top I covered with brown sugar to look like sand and bought plastic army men toys at Walmart. It sounds simple, but it as the favorite of all the birthday cakes we've done. Much better than a typical store cake!

Good luck and have fun!
2-6 YO ? They'll love Spiderman ! I say go for it. Maybe a pony ride, pinata ??? Sounds great
I have no intention of spending huge amounts of money for a birthday party. I think most kids enjoy any kind of play activities. People are putting so much emphasis on things like this that, frankly, are so unimportant. Just remember, it's not a competition. Give your son a choice of several different games, and let him help pick.
