* I will be very grateful to anyone who provides a source for their answer. I'm writing a paper on the pros and cons of reinstating the draft and there are some other stats related to military enlistees that I'll be needing. How many people are recruited into the military every year in the United States?About 160,000 per year.
How does it compare to before 9/11 ?
It is up just slightly, because the size of the military is larger now, than it was on 9/11.
You have to understand, Congress controls the size of the military.
So a million people, could NOT go enlist tommorow, if they wanted to.
Enlistment doesn't change, just because were in a war.
Plus, reenlistment, ( people enlisting again, after their first enlistment ) is at an all time high right now.
2. There are no pro's to starting a draft.
if a draft was started tommorow, nothing would change. No one would actually be drafted.
A draft, only conscripts people, if there are not enough volunteers. And since we have more volunteers than they can possibly enlist right now, no draft is needed.
IE: a draft doesn't mean everyone must serve, a draft doesn't mean that rich people kids will have to serve.
Even during Vietnam, less than 6% of the draft eligible men, were actually drafted.
The Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps did not have to draft anyone at all, during vietnam.
